- Ferrucci ruled out of Toronto race after heavy crash in warm-up
- AJ Foyt Racing shifts focus to Laguna Seca as hand injury sidelines driver
- Championship setback drops Ferrucci from 10th to 12th in standings
Santino Ferrucci endured a challenging Sunday in Toronto, suffering both physical and championship setbacks after a crash in the morning warm-up forced him to miss the race.
The incident occurred just minutes before the session’s end, when Ferrucci’s No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing/Sexton Properties Chevrolet made heavy contact with the Turn 7 wall, followed by a second impact with the tire barrier in Turn 8. While he was medically cleared to race, the damage to the car was too extensive for a timely repair or backup swap, leaving Ferrucci unable to take the green flag.
“Just an unfortunate incident this morning in final warm-up right before the race,” said team president Larry Foyt. “We made a tough call because the damage was pretty extensive, and we decided as a team to start focusing on Laguna instead of rushing to get something on track today. Santino banged up his hand a bit, so I’d rather have him rest and be ready for next weekend. We’ll be back strong.”
Ferrucci’s right hand was left heavily bruised in the crash, but the team expects him to be fit for the upcoming Java House Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The race is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
Adding to the disappointment, Ferrucci dropped two places in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings. He entered the weekend sitting 10th but now finds himself 12th heading into Round 14 of the season.
