Mick Schumacher’s commitment to IndyCar was never in doubt. The only remaining question was where the former Formula 1 driver would race in 2027.
That question has now been answered.
Meyer Shank Racing has confirmed that Schumacher will join the Honda-powered outfit for the 2027 IndyCar season, driving the No. 66 entry alongside New Zealander Marcus Armstrong.
The announcement brings an end to months of speculation surrounding Schumacher’s future and represents another significant step in the German driver’s evolving motorsport career.
After two seasons competing in Alpine’s FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar programme, Schumacher made the transition to IndyCar in 2026 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. His rookie campaign has been one of adaptation, perseverance and gradual progress, but Schumacher made his intentions clear early: IndyCar was not simply a temporary destination.
He was here to stay.
Now, he has a new home.

“I’m very excited to begin this next chapter with Meyer Shank Racing in 2027,” Schumacher said following the announcement.
“This is a special opportunity for me, and one I’m incredibly grateful for.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work with the team and building towards what we can achieve together.
“Onto 2027!”
For Schumacher, the move represents an opportunity to join one of IndyCar’s most ambitious organisations and, crucially, an Indianapolis 500-winning team.
Speaking further about his new challenge, Schumacher highlighted both the potential of the partnership and his desire to continue developing within the championship.
“I’m super excited to be working with everyone at Meyer Shank Racing and really excited to be joining such an ambitious team,” he said.
“It’s going to be a special journey to start working with MSR. I am looking forward to what more I can learn from the team.
“They’ve had some really great success, and of course, going to an Indy 500-winning team is awesome.”
The move also places Schumacher alongside Marcus Armstrong, another driver whose career has taken him from European single-seaters into the highly competitive world of IndyCar.
Together, the pair will form a fresh and intriguing driver line-up for Meyer Shank Racing as the team looks towards 2027.
Before then, however, Schumacher still has unfinished business in his rookie season.
Heading into the final round of the 2026 championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Schumacher remains in contention for Rookie of the Year honours. He trails current rookie leader Dennis Hauger by just 18 points, ensuring there is still plenty to fight for before his first IndyCar campaign comes to a close.
Whatever happens in Monterey, though, one thing is now certain.
Mick Schumacher’s IndyCar journey is far from over.
